no reason to get too excited about playing for 11th  or 12th place. Just the P5 throwing a small bone put there.

#2 Re: Southern Miss » Blake Anderson » 2020-12-11 10:44:10

One of the rumors ive heard more than once was that Mcllellan was going to fire Jeff if he had lost to LSU in 1994. Not sure if true but that was a fun night in Baton Rouge.

That was the worst half of basketball I have ever watched.

#5 Re: Southern Miss » USM @ WKU 2020 football game thread » 2020-11-16 16:00:21

all i got out of watching every play of that game Saturday was that both quarterbacks made a mistake transferring to fbs, even though im not sure if either could start in FCS

#6 Re: Southern Miss » It's GAME WEEK ! » 2020-08-28 11:32:40

Looking forward to going to the game. Always optimistic for week 1. Week  2, well that could be different story.

#7 Re: Southern Miss » John Thompson To The Top Talk » 2020-05-15 06:12:44

That 1995 Alabama game was the worst feeling ever. was a long ride home after that one. i also went the Georgia game in 1996 and he was right, the defense beat Mike Bobo up that day.  I remember the 1992 La Tech game as being really hot and winning by a field goal. i was a senior that year about to graduate. Other than the shitshow vs Northern Illinois, that 1992 season was fun.

#8 Re: Southern Miss » Year 5....... » 2020-04-15 13:42:33

I still enjoy going to the games and being around friends and family. What has changed though is how i feel after a loss. im over it by the time i reach my parking lot by Mcdonalds. in the 90's and part of 2000's id be sick to stomach for rest of night and next day. Does not bother me one bit now. and i attribute this to the fact that going 12-1 gets about the same bowl as 6-6 in this shitty conference and even if you go 13-0 your reward is playing in the 11th place game. Yay. Bring on the Jags.

#9 Re: Southern Miss » When One of Us...... » 2020-03-09 11:45:14

When you only have 3 players that should be playing D1 basketball you dont match up well against any team.

#10 Re: Southern Miss » At UAB » 2020-01-24 06:56:16

i compared this team to the 1972 0-24 team a couple of weeks ago and the reverse negativity TTT trick works again. 2-0 since. easily the best game of the year last night, but need Draine and Watson to show up each game like last night to keep this momentum going. MTSU is 4-16 so Saturday is a chance to get another road win.

#11 Re: Southern Miss » Basketball La Tech » 2020-01-17 07:37:07

i have watched most of the games this year and there seems to be little improvement.  This team could very easily end up on the same level as the 1971-72 team that went 0-24.

#12 Re: Southern Miss » When men were men. » 2020-01-02 14:19:49

i left in the middle of the 3rd Quarter of that 1993 Bama game. That and the 2012 Boise game at home are the only 2 I can think of that i left before 4th Quarter

#13 Re: Southern Miss » Just shaking my head » 2019-12-28 13:55:48

This is basically the 11th place game. The winner will be forgotten as quickly as the winner of the Armed Forces Bowl. Thanks ESPN for another year of the P5 Championship  (AKA College Football Playoff )

#14 Re: Southern Miss » Armed Forces Bowl in Ft Worth v Tulane » 2019-12-28 11:47:23

I have to go back to work on the 2nd. Was off from the 21st to the 1st. Would have went to the exhibition game if been it had been on a normal day during the holidays . No thanks to driving to Fort Worth on a Friday and back home to Alabama on Sunday . I’ll watch this one at home while eating breakfast .

#15 Re: Southern Miss » We are not battling very hard for Atlantis..... » 2019-11-19 20:51:04

I paid the $7 to watch that. The 2nd half was as bad a half of basketball as I’ve ever seen. Things can only get better after that.

#16 Re: Southern Miss » It’s ok, coach! » 2019-11-15 09:23:03

both losses have been a complete disaster in last 20 seconds. its like we have not practiced those situation at all this fall

#17 Re: Southern Miss » This week should just about do it........ » 2019-10-21 20:09:44

I’ve always said that Arkansas State game was the worst and
/ or least entertaining game I’ve ever been to at USM and I’ve been to every home game but 1 since 1989. The UTEP game in 2017 is a close 2nd.

#18 Re: Southern Miss » UNT @ USM football 2019 game thread » 2019-10-13 09:05:10

That was probably the most entertaining home game since LA Tech in 2016. Maybe it’s the beer.

#19 Re: Southern Miss » New marketing campaign » 2019-09-30 11:20:40

I think the main reason attendance is down in college football across is because there is little to play for.You have 115 teams playing to be in a meaningless glorified exhibition game (Bowl) regardless of whether they win 12 or 6 games and you have 15(maybe) playing for the P5 Championship/ESPN Invitational (I refuse to call it a playoff, its only includes a few teams from a few conferences). I will go to a bowl game that USM is in (went to Shreveport in 2017, had a great time), but unlike a regular season game, a loss doesn't bother me one second. in fact , any game played after the Army-navy game each is just for people that like to watch football because the winning a bowl game doesn't mean shit (I guess they do get a trophy).

So lets beat North Texas and win this crappy conference again. its the only champion ship we have to play (just like most teams) at this point in college football.

#20 Re: Southern Miss » Southern Miss v Bama Game Thread » 2019-09-23 08:15:56

I went to every Alabama game that was played from 1989 to 2003 and the only time I didn't think USM had a chance to win was in 1993. After the "flag in the divot" in 2003 on the kickoff return for a Td I decided there was no reason to ever go back to Tuscaloosa.  USM had no chance to win Saturday and it wasn't enjoyable to watch (unlike the Troy game which I did go to, nice trip, nice facilities, but in middle of nowhere). Pretty much a wasted week of football season in my mind. The money was nice but I see no reason to schedule another game after 2021. I would think that for about $600,000 less there is an iowa State, Indiana,  Vanderbilt,  Rutgers, or Boston College out there to play.  For now, lets just go out and win this crappy conference.
