Stellar second half coaching closed a 36 point deficit into a 30 point loss at the preseason 5th ranked Sun Belt team last night. JoyeL has steered his charges to the #296 spot in the ledger slightly ahead of Alcorn while still considerably trailing Prairie View and Tennessee Tech.  Another 14 years of this leadership could place this program solidly in the top 250 with patience and a few breaks.

Should put us in Ole Miss territory .

As a fan of college sports I don’t judge my enjoyment or what “matters” on national perception or how much money it generates. Going to the college World Series is a lifetime badge of honor for USM that many P5 money programs have yet to achieve. I also grew up in Raleigh in the early/mid 80’s, the Mecca of college basketball and they barely cared about football so it really has zero to do with how much money a sport makes or a national view. It’s all about the fans view/regional perception and what they care about. Today, we are a baseball school and have a past tradition of a football program. We have never and will never be a basketball school, same for all the Mississippi basketball programs for that matter. Just like NC State or the state of North Carolina will never be a college football power.

Be great at what you know and invest in that discipline. Football can be decent again but never at the clip/level of the 80’s and 90’s because money won’t allow it. At some point, money will destroy baseball as well so enjoy it as much as you can right now.

Pocket presence , yes definitely . Arm strength - no, not even close to Lowe or Keyes . Not even in the ballpark . Escapability no.

Having said this, I like him a lot as he looked more comfortable that Lowe or Keyes. Keyes is a great athlete who is a much more accurate passer than he has shown as I think he has not grasped the offense . I think Hall tailored some things to his skill set against Bama. Hall has to be frustrated as he now has to change offensive strategy to suit a pure drop back passer although this is more along the lines of what Hall wants to do . Yes , I believe UTEP will and should blitzkrieg him .  Lange must have enough composure to hit check downs and hot reads. I think he may just have it in him based on his performance Saturday against Rice . The KOWBOY has spoken .

Easier to fix than some realize. Weak conference helps greatly. We were competitive in several games even amidst the ongoing turmoil. Good leadership can turn it fairly quickly.

You dont know if he is a good coach- and neither do I . Is HE A PROVEN COMMODITY-NO . Has he had suceess as a head coach at a lower level- yes . He is coaching in a superior conference with average talent, a freshman quarterback, and putting up respectable numbers . So-I will hold my opinion for awhile . My question is who could we afford who is better and willing to take over this dumpster fire ??  Waiting .......................

4 shootings in Hattiesburg over the weekend. Great job Toby.

Yes , definitely his fault. No doubt. Inarguable. Any random bad thing should be assigned to him. Including traffic accidents and broken hearts.

You do realize that " some " cannot distinguish satire from reality ? Do you think it is fair or productive to get rumors started with this stuff ?

All that needs to be said “he’s one of us. Hire quickly “

I have no idea if Ladner is a good coach or not. That being said , neither does anyone else on this board . We have NO POINT GUARD , LITTLE TALENT , and little depth . That combined with it being his first year makes it impossible to evaluate him . A year or two from now I may join all of you in bitching about him but for now all of you are making a judgement based on absolutely zero knwledge of what is required to field competitive basketball. I would say it is fair to say we should have paid the cash to hire someone with a more solid track record rather than " one of us ".
You can call me keyboard Kowboy or " all knowing one " whichever you prefer as both are spot on .

the only reason we didn't get our arse whooped tonight was b/c they shot half their treys out of total shots in the first half and made the same amount we did....what was it???? about 10% for them and 39% for us....we didn't foul on the perimeter....

you do realize we're now 1-9 against d1 comp, eh?

limiting turnovers and fouls has to change to win games.....telling me we're out-manned is utter bullfuckingshite with those stats and record to date.....

that's just fk'n unacceptable....

keep ridin' that pining, bro...

I like you stink - but you are clueless when it comes to sports and strategy . And yes, I have the background to know what I am talking about .

ummmmmmkay, if'n ya say so, I'll give ya that portion of the argument....

you're trying to tell me what???

the fact our legs tire quicker than most due to lack of talent/personnel/playing sloppy man/zone w/o anything having anything close resembling a solid PG is a fundamental that will one day generate W's????

do you realize how poorly they played with overconfidence in the 1st half....it was play ground hoops in their mind....they shot and executed like dogshite.....I'm certain they ran steps and lines all day long today....

what I've found slightly amusing is our full court press has been quite effective at times.....that one I'll give credit to Jay & sons...unfortunately, we don't have the bench presence to do that effectively over the course of the game....

once again, please explain o' zen background master why we didn't immediately foul after LD buried the trey to pull within 4 with less than a min. to go.....

that by itself showed a lack of in-game corching presence....

also, nice bucket driving the floor as TT was walking off to make the score look a tad closer....

I'm all fk'n ears waiting fo' mo' guidance....please enlighten....

O Zen background master . LMAO I cant top that .

that's a discipline issue...

They go to foul line more because they have better athletes and we foul them trying to stop put backs and penetration . Why do they get put backs and penetration ? Because they have better athletes than we do . We also foul because we are USUALLY undersized or facing better athletes in one on one defensive situations . There are other reasons but not sure where discipline figures into that equation .

Powell would have pitched on short rest after pitching on short rest Sunday. Not good for someone who has had two surgeries.
