GREAT letter, but...

Why would he go to places like Birmingham and Houston but not New Orleans? What on Earth does he think he'll find in Houston?

And I'm afraid Stinkfist is likely right. There was a path forward for USM. It was called the AAC, and the opening was something like 5 or 6 years ago. "We" decided we'd rather keep shooting marbles with the kiddos because growing up is scary.

That said, there is a blueprint written into the history books. Ditch your faux conference that's really a zero exit fee / zero revenue scheduling alliance. Play 7 road games per year, as many of them @ P5 schools as possible. And get a coach who can win enough of those games to rebuild USM's legacy and fan base.

Absolutely nothing short of that will accomplish anything worthwhile. And my blueprint probably won't work, either. Too many people want us to sit still at the kiddy table.

Here’s what he will be looking for in Houston. Alums in the oil and gas industry that have gone radio silent since Hammond stopped coming over. Go where the money is.

After the last few snooze-jobs I'd take Robert Tilton. "Put your hands right on that streaming device! Don't worry what the people around you might think! I'm looking for 12 people to plant a $10,000 seed! Hoo Baba Kanda!"

“Hoo Baba Kanda”...OMFG I just pissed my pants.

Got this in my email. Apparently it's for Eagle Club members only. I object to that. The Eagle Club didn't pay 100% of Gilbert's salary, if it paid any of it. I haven't been in the Eagle Club every year, but I've always gone to games and followed USM sports. The problem at USM isn't a lack of Eagle Club members, it's a lack of people who give a damn. I've been in that number since September 1989.

And then we all heard the screeching of tires as he left skid marks leaving USM.

Money talks and the big money in NC said they wanted Mack back. Apparently his wife was big in real estate when they were there years ago. They have maintained those real estate connections and relationships, many who are big donors, and the deal was in place over a month ago for Mack to return and to pay the buyout of LFed.......

The 'money' people here would rehire EJ before LFed.

Would this be the same money people who told us everything would be ok when we were ignored by the AAC....the same money people who told us they would cover the shortfall, from disgruntled alums, when GJH was not retained as AD...the same ...oh fuckit...never mind.

Basically, what you've just described is a "loser" mentality that has permeated our existence.  And if you think about it, we've bullshit ourselves into believing we are something special from the Reggie days, the Brett days, beating OP and Moo regularly back when they both sucked shit, and some Bower wins over $ec teams with losing records.

Mark May's quote was correct but the timing of it was wrong.  Just who the fuck do we think we are?  It doesn't matter, there's no one at the games any more and there's not even any spirit on campus for gamedays much less during the week.

Throw some money at basketball. Can’t hurt and at least you can have an entertaining conversation with the head coach.

Saw the Rice / UofH game. Rice looked well coached. Does not bode well for this group of good guys.

USM 17
Rice 28

I am sure most teams have gay players. I just didn’t know we had so many...and all of them are white boi’s.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.....

I know Hammond had a plan cooking to buy out EJ as early as the Louisville game that year.

There's my info/hearsay contribution.

A key point to remember is that we had an interim president while the ej shitshow was playing out.

A wealthy donor offered the interim president to completely fund the buy outs of the football coaches, under one condition. That GJH be given a 4 year contract. The interim would not agree saying it would not be fair to the new president.

No one can predict what would have happened if the offer had been accepted, but the unintended consequences that resulted have been devastating financially for the university. At least $50 million in future donations, that were being negotiated, were discontinued.

The intersection between business and academia is a slippery slope.
