"Dr. Bennett has given me great confidence that I can drive the car," Gilbert Jr. said.

No self-study nonsense needed for this one, let the assistants finish out the season and/or contract years - step up, bro!

We cannot become a better version of Southern Miss athletics without our fans.  Here are several ways you can support us:

-       Wear the Black and Gold with pride.
-       Support our 360 student-athletes by attending our athletics events.
-       Buy season tickets to our events and encourage your friends/neighbors to join you;
-       Become a member of the Eagle Club; and
-       Speak optimistically about this great university - we have a very bright future.

We have a men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader on Tuesday, December 11, and a marquee women’s basketball game next Friday, December 14, against MSUX. I look forward to seeing at Reed Green Coliseum!

Can't argue with this.

Self absorption in their little encounter group, along with elements of condescension, sanctimony, trite paperback management jargon and myopia - Gilbert, Jr.

There was a path forward for USM. It was called the AAC, and the opening was something like 5 or 6 years ago. "We" decided we'd rather keep shooting marbles with the kiddos because growing up is scary.

Would love to know the truth. What I recall was that only large population centers/TV markets were sought.

Position ourselves to be the best choice for inclusion next time something shakes loose.

Sounds as close to spitting fire as someone in his position can exhibit. I like it.

I may speak for others when I say the highlight of his tenure was the Virtual Gilbert quote machine: http://sands.eastus.cloudapp.azure.com:8383/
Ought to share it on an ECU board.

Southern was out recruited for my sons. On top of that when one went to visit with a group of prospective students the tour of the campus was conducted by a slovenly dressed fat girl wearing flip flops who really didn't know much. Both rightly chose to go elsewhere. As you might imagine I was surprised and pretty embarrassed by this. I went there, my dad went there, a brother and sister too. I spoke to the powers that be at the time, Joe Paul I think. He got defensive, gave me a bunch of chin music.

Magee's playing the violins over him on twitter.

#13 Re: Southern Miss » Road to Bowl Season » 2018-12-02 11:06:56

Patrick Magee has another less optimistic take on twitter, but is at least following the subject. The other guy is stuck in the high school crap while giving splama a hummer.

Not really. You have to know who you are and be confident with that. Bower did more with less for most of his time at USM. He was paid below what others received that had far less success. Only time I can think he legitimately tried to leverage his deal was when he interviewed with Wyoming. Hop is comfortable with his salary. If he wins CUSA which he isn't far from doing he will be good with a 25% increase and extension.

When you set the bar so far up your arse like UAB is doing its absolutely dumb. Clarks name might come up in a few openings but it wouldn't take much for those trying to hire him to see UAB for what it has been the last few years. Take away all the benefits they have been given and put them on a level recruiting field and see how he does. Don't give him a half a million more per season at this point. Good lawd.

We do set the bar low.

That's one thing going for us.

Slipped on dog crap I suppose.

I want to modify my perfect storm prediction........in addition to USM not being selected for a bowl, I would like to add ECU not selecting DILBERT as their new AD.......

Imagine that guy interviewing for the ECU job and having to return to Hattiesburg if they end up going another direction.

That is now my perfect storm.......

And in the meantime somebody whispering in Sonya's ear that they heard that the General is his replacement.

My favorite is George C. Scott as Ebenezer Scrooge.

Watch it 2 weeks ahead so you'll have adequate time to react.

Not sure another middle manager from an SEC school is what we need in this job. Those guys are mostly box-checkers. While they're here, the boxes to check are bowel games, compliance, and making sure they're on the next train out of town.

I'd rather see a little more creativity this time around. Someone like McClain (who almost certainly knows better), or, if I can just pick a name right out of thin air, Karl Benson.

SEC is a gravy train. That's where we got Gilbert. We need someone with a tougher background and a sense of urgency.
