I'll start; my current arsenal and my thoughts on each piece:

FN Herstal FNX-9 (the all black version): quality handgun. Not the greatest looking thing you've ever laid eyes on. It does not tolerate a limp grip; I don't shoot handguns much, so occasionally I'll experience a failure-to-hold-open on the last round, especially if I shoot the whole magazine without resting. I very seldom experience any malfunction worse than that now that I know to hold on tight. I do wish the safety took a bit more force to operate.

Century Arms RAS-47: this rifle has a terrible reputation, but I've sent about 500 rounds downrange without issue. Wear looks about the same as the wear on my FNX-9 at the same round count, maybe even a bit better. Later production models have an "X" etched into the piston, which indicates some additional heat treating has been applied. Reliability aside, this rifle just might have the best trigger and the most potential for accuracy of any mass produced AK variant. My girlfriend learned to shoot on it, too.

Re: Collections

Century has had issues in the past but has cleaned them up almost completely!  The RAS is a good little rifle and is made in the USA!

Anything from Fabrique Nationale Herstal is a superior weapon.  They produce everything from pistols such as your FNX-9 to Advanced Automated Weapon Systems for ships/tanks/helicopters.  They have always been a premier weapons manufacturer and hopefully will continue to do so...unlike Remington which is dogshit nowadays!

Yeah, people say they rust at the merest hint of moisture in the air. Sad.

Imagine I'll pick up a revolver or a shotgun next.

Re: Collections

Ever heard of "Rem-rust"?  It's very real but that's not the problem.  Remington is owned by a large group of non-gun folks who are only driven by stock profits (which is taking a hit of late).  They will not stand behind their product at all.  They say they do but try their warranty.  You will not be a happy camper!  The larger gun distributors and dealers will no longer carry their inferior products.  Keep the old Remingtons forever but don't send them back to those shit heads for any reason!!

I'm not always a fan of his, but I think I agree with YouTuber Nut-N-Fancy on the RAS-47. Hatred of this rifle is mostly an Internet phenomenon. Shit like that tends to take on a life of its own.

When I asked the people at the fancy gun shop I go to up in Alpharetta about it, they thought it was odd that I was asking if it was a quality product. They sell and even rent plenty of Century products and they seem to trust them. And they do not generally stock cheap guns.

Re: Collections

In the past four years, I've seen one returnable issue with a Century built AK variant.  It was a higher end C39 V2 brand new out of the box...the front sight was canted slightly left and you couldn't tell until it was put in the vice and really studied hard.  I worked my way thru college in a job that involved a T-square on a table so I have an eye for that shit...still.  Anyway, Century was notified, immediately sent a call tag and the rifle was wisked away.  It returned 2-3 weeks later with a perfectly straight front sight and dude is happy to this day!  Apparently, in their past at some time, there were some issues.  I can tell you that there are no issues any more.  I've seen hundreds of them in the past four years and all they do is go "bang"!  That little RAS 47 is a good rifle...with nice maple wood and a chrome moly steel barrel.

The same people who bitch about Century are probably sharing tips about what grade of sandpaper people should rub on their Kel-Tecs to get them to cycle properly more than 4 times in a row.

Re: Collections

So from memory, my personal collection:

Sig Carry Nightmare 1911 .45, Taurus Stainless PT1911 .45, Argentine 1911 (under Colt contract pre WWII), Sig (GSG) 1911 .22, Rock Island .22 TCM, Ruger LCR .38 Spl, FNX-45 Tactical, Sig P238 .380, Sig P938 9mm, Thompson/Center G2 Contender with .375 JDJ "Hand Cannon" barrel and .45/410 barrel, Thompson/Center Encore in .308, Thompson/Center Katahdin Pro Hunter Encore in .460 Magnum, Vector AK47, H&R .45-70, M91/30 Mosin Nagant .7.62X54R, Ruger 10/22 Takedown tactical, Remington/AAC Model 7 in .300 Blackout (Whisper is the truth but those greedy bastards did this so they didn't have to pay JD Jones any royalties), Mossberg 500 12 ga, Marlin model 60 .22LR, and what looks like an old H&R .410 break open way back in the back of my safe.

Also worth noting: Silencerco Osprey 45, Silencerco 22 Sparrow SS, and Silencerco Harvester .30

Of course most of my favorite guns are in my dad's collection and they consist of several Ruger Blackhawks in .44 Mag and .45 Long Colt, a Ruger Super Redhawk .454 Casull and a S&W XVR .460 Magnum!

I know there are some pretty cool freaking collections out there so some of y'all brag about your irons...

Re: Collections

.22 TCM is the new cartridge on my radar. People bitch about it (https://homedefensejournal.com/2012/12/ … other-fad/) so it must be good. If people whine about something, it's often because they don't have it and are mad about that.

Re: Collections

While it could be used as defense ammo especially by someone with a low tolerance for recoil, it is loud as hell and throws off a fireball the size of Texas!
