Fedora or Monken

If you could have either one back, money is no object, which one would you choose and why?

Re: Fedora or Monken

The answer is Fedora, seven days a week and twice on Sunday.

Monken was a competent football coach, but Fedora sang a song the sheet music of which we no longer even dare look at.

Re: Fedora or Monken

Monken is truly an elite offensive mind. I think he wins 10+ games with this team.

I love Fedora, don’t get me wrong, but it’s mainly because of the way he energized the fanbase. He’s a decent coach, but not as good as Monken (but better than Hopson).

Re: Fedora or Monken

I absolutely love Fedora he is always a golden eagle forever in my mind. He's caught a shit ton of criticism from USM fans. It divided the fanbase when Bower was fired and he was hired, but I love him and he's always a golden eagle..

That being said if I had to choose I would hire Monken. He rebuilt the program from ashes and I want to think in my heart that he truly loved USM. I loved the way that he was no bullshit with the press. I really truly think that he loved USM. I don't think Fedora ever did, we were a stepping stone. I'm totally fine with that and I knew that about Fedora.

Monken invested more in our program and our fanbase hearts. He's my pick.

Re: Fedora or Monken

The jury’s still out on Hopson. It appears he recruits much better than either. Got to have the horses to win the race. Anyhow most of the jug heads here would have been happy with this year before it started.
Just remember NG-SMS-NGB predicted no more than four (4) wins. Yeah, he’s Nostradamus alright.

Monken.....about as close to the psyche of Carmody as you'll find.....what he did resurrecting this program after E12L is nothing shy of turning water to wine in figurative terms....

Re: Fedora or Monken

Liked them both but Fedora won a championship and had the fan base more fired up than I've ever seen in the last 20 years.   Monken is good but lacks Fedora's fire.     Monken only lasted 3 seasons and never won a championship.....he's unproven in my mind.  For god sakes, he had ONE winning season at Southern Miss in the worst conference in College Football.   Fedora has had 2  losing seasons in 10 seasons, with both at North Carolina (one while on probation and only because they lost the bowl game, and this year).  North Carolina is not a football school.    That's a proven coach.

One winning season in a shit conference does not equate to a great coach.   Good lord.

It wasn't like he turned a program around that had 5 consecutive years of losing.   While ELOSS was disastrous, it was ONE season.  Good grief, we were one season removed from having a record year.   Eloss was simply a bad coach.

not only was it disastrous, but the timing couldn't have been worse (realignment was going nuts then)....

E12L simply had a shiTTTy attitude coming in as soon as his mouth opened.....whomever(s) conducted that interview should be shot on site....also, lets not forget why E12L was the bottom of the barrel pickings......b/c the dipshites let hair gel STAY!!!

Monk's only problem was he was a yankee in too many minds (anyone north of the free state of jones is considered such by many in the 'burg)

did he leave us hanging???  yup......  did the 'powers that be' let hair gel stay too long AND select the bowl game in how-R-ya???...... yup...

fedhat lost (iirc) four fucking games where we scored over 50 pts.......that record will never be broken.....

fwiw, I've stated many a time how Monk should've stayed for that 4th year......IMO, it ended up costing him money long term.....however, I don't live in that man's epidermis.....

What part of both Fedora and Monken saying to Southern Miss and its fans ‘fuck you’ dont ya understand. Fuck’em both. Current coach winning same, if not more, games on average at a hell of a lot less cost.  But honestly, I still don’t get the Monken love.

Re: Fedora or Monken

Pie won two national championships at Southern. But that can't compare to SUNWACUSA runnerups, Poydras Bowl titles, and Beach Bowls I guess.

that doesn't translate well in the 'burg.....just like running off LE......

if there's one thing I understand about the humpty dumpty(s), is they fully understand how to go all-in with a 2-7 pre-flop having the biggest stack of nothing.....
