Hopefully Gilbert will direct a clueless intern to post it here.

Initially not a supporter however as mentioned, need to start thinking outside the box. But since you asked
1) scheduling - actual environment does not support your comments. As mentioned, we haven’t created anything close to what you’ve suggested. Again, just predicting future schedule based on past scheduling.
2) Bowl  games. Bowls are locked up between conferences
3) playoff money distributed to conferences.
4) TV Money. Currently very little but $200k better than zero
5) impact to other sport specifically baseball and basketball

Those are major concerns

Re: Gilbert Speaks

Of all the shit being tossed around in this thread regarding home games, one thing is striking to me.  How much fan loyalty did we lose for all those years by having only 4 home games?  I am of the belief that over the long haul our fanbase should have the opportunity to see half the games at home.  While we're at it, don't forget the ole week night/non-Saturday games that we used to play but went away from due to the bitching and empty seats.

It's a good question, but I suspect the biggest exodus has occurred in the last five years.

The fan base for home games during that period that showed up for games wasn't that big then, even when playing very good competition.

1987 v Florida State drew an announced 25k and change and that was the exception not the rule.

The only time I remember being truly impressed by the turnout for a home game was the 2012 home opener. Also, we usually show up pretty well for games in New Orleans and Mobile (but not Houston). Bottom line is that our home crowds have never been good other than the fleeting bounce Fedora created.

I don't know what happened to you, but UH does have an amazing record of fucking shit up on Saturdays. My favorite Cougin' It moment was Bleachergate. UH erected something like 4,000 new seats in their football stadium but they used rickety scaffolding:

That construction technique might cut it for a few seats at Lorman Junior High, but when that shit extends 65' in the air it's scary (EDIT: scary-looking; I do think that's probably a safe temporary structure).

They sold a bunch of Longhorn fans tickets to sit on that monstrosity. The university president wimped out at the last moment and just told them they could watch the game on TV at the UH basketball arena.

Anyone recall how many yards Sammie Smith had by halftime?  Bowden ran the same play to him over and over and we had nothing for it.  I do recall it being quite warm and sunny that day.

I thought Sammie Smith was UF not FSU. Could be senility.

Re: Gilbert Speaks

Beers, what are your thoughts regarding a CUSA, Sunbelt, WAC, Mountain West merger of best of the best????   Something like this should produce strong TV revenue, credibility, and consistent playoff contender.

Edit:  possibly independent such as BYU, Army or UMass

I remember taking bets on who was gonna block our next punt. I remember taking a cooler into the game. I remember Kenny Siler tackling me on the sidewalk after the game. I remember my date asking WTF was he doing. I remember Kenny just wondering what was up and we’re we having a party later.

Other details elude me.

Re: Gilbert Speaks

ive been saying for years that we should go Indy.  its maybe the only thing that can save us.  fuck this conference and the travel expense to these loser schools.  travel expenses in ALL sports.  freaking soccer and volleyball or some crap is traveling all over to play these shit schools.  for what?  $200k in tv payments?  i can do math.....thats a losing deal.   we can find 5 home games in our sleep if we had to.  get all the money games we can.  we need the money to pay and KEEP a good coach.

here's a secret, good coach = good team.  great coach = great team.  shit coach = shit team.  that's how that works.  its not really hard to figure out.  so get money to pay a staff.  how?  indy = money games = pay / keep coaches.  you also get better exposure playing the bigger schools (i dont give two shits if they are ALL away games) which gives the perception to recruits and the public at-large that we are a semi-big school.  guess what else?  the money games (and mid-major home and homes) will be on TV.  real TV - not twitter or a phone ap for ffs.
