Does he change anything? My guess is that he just isn't much of a maintenance programmer. A lot of programmers detest taking a big code base that other people built and learning how it works and how to change it.

Besides that, if you look at the computer-related things he posts online, he seems more like a systems administrator type. He knows the differences between all the different Linux distributions and how to set some of them up, not how to program for them.

I actually saw on his site where he solicits developers to volunteer to improve the site. LMAO- it's a frickin' message board program written in PHP. You don't need The "A" Team to work on it.

I have to wait 25 more seconds to post this.

Now 4 seconds.

Agreed. I've reduced the limit to once every 15 seconds.

Something else for you, Stinkfist:

I would really like to replace that theme your using with something built around "Mobile," but with a lighter color scheme (no gray background).

Your theme is different from "Sulfur" and "Mobile" in structural ways; it goes beyond color. Maintaining it has a high cost, because it's so different.

At some point, I want to work with you on creating a theme based on the structure of "Mobile" but with a white background. We can call it "Fist" or something during development / testing.

Let me know what you think.

I'm game....just let me know when....

Checked again, and it's somebody else who uses the oddball theme, not you. I think it was "beagle." I was able to fix his theme for now at least.

Maintaining all the themes is a distraction. Eventually I'd like to just have "white background" and "black background." I will take things slow on that front, though.

Beagle, if you have any issues with your theme, please post them here.

This isn't something that was requested, but it's an improvement so I'll mention it: We now have a real user list. I've cleared out all of the spammers and bots. If you see someone in the user list now, they're a real human who actually registered.

I've implemented a new feature that was requested this morning: PM notifications. If someone uses the site to send you an email, you'll see the banner shown below one time only:

I'm not sure that's a good change. After you've seen a pic once, it can take up a lot of unnecessary space in each response. Especially when you get a lot of responses.

There are good arguments both ways. After some thought, though, I've decided to "bite the bullet." I've written and deployed the code necessary to enable quoted images to appear as images.

Yes, this change introduces the potential of seeing the same image repeatedly, and it tends to slow things down.

That said, people like to reply to images with other images. It's a form of communication that ought to be possible here.

Old posts that quote images will continue to show the image URL. Going forward, for now at least, quoted images will show up as images.

the counter argument is that most want to sift through as quickly as possible w/o having to scroll unnecessarily or click on a link if they don't have a clue when the come upon an individual post....

of course when BEERs uses "stinkpussy"....... well, there's no doubting that one ..... LLLLLLLLLLLLmao!

changing the code where the thread title is always displayed is easily one of  my faves....I usually have no fewer than 10 tabs open at the same time....I also always click "last post" and scroll up until I find my last one....I would assume many others do as well....

so.............speaking of............

how big of a deal would it be to create a link that gives one next to (user name, likes, then link) that would enable a pop up (or in a new tab) a menu of all posts made by said user over 'x' days....1 day, 1 week, 1 month.....don't really care what the count would be....

just food for thought....I'm trying not to overburden.....a simple "no" is okay....

if that doesn't make sense, just lemme know.....

thanks for all your effort.....

Probably not too difficult. Really, nothing that people have requested has taken much time. It's amazing how much one programmer can get done when not saddled with corporate shit like test environments, database administrators, prioritization committees, "architects" who like to make up seven-layer burrito designs, etc.

One day when I'm less dependent on making a living in that world, I want to write up something (whether a book or just a blog or whatever) about how badly other people are getting software development wrong.

w/o question.....you've killed it....I want an autographed copy wink

I would've loved to have had you as a programmer back in my corpshite 'murica days......unfortunately, I had to give hand held shop floor field trips with a goon from salt lake city, UT that didn't have a clue what a fucking air handler was.................I don't miss those days.....

Haven't changed that part of the code recently. One thing I can tell you: posts are tracked as "read" by specific users. If you read something while not logged in, it doesn't count as "read" for your user and the thread will show as bold when you log in.
