The whole notion of "G5" (hate even typing it) solidarity pisses me off. Most of those schools shouldn't be playing football at any level that has scholarships. They over-saturated the market and that is the root cause of much of the bullshit we're dealing with right now.

Yeah, but why do USM fans have such an inferiority complex? Even more so than schools like ULL, UAB, WKU, etc. Gotta be a reason why our fans are extraordinarily nutty.

USM fans have experienced a small taste of real success, i.e. success outside the G5 circle jerk. That little taste of success, without anything more substantial to follow, just makes them hungrier / stupider.
