Re: When does the next shoe drop?

There'd have to be a school in the AAC that the P5 wanted. I don't think there is. Cincy maybe? They did expand their football stadium from 35,000 to 40,000 recently. They are a basketball power.

If Cincy goes, C-DOA probably loses ODU and/or Marshall to the AAC. C-DOA will pick up Liberty, NMSU, Appy State, etc.

Pretty depressing shit.

You're probably right. I'm deluding myself that they might look to anyone like NMSU, who actually played football before last week and isn't named after an airport, ocean, or some other goofy shit.

Re: When does the next shoe drop?

The next big round of realignment will come at the Big 12's expense again, probably within 24 months. The Big 12's instability theatens the conference's viability. Oklahoma is the Big 12 school that is the best fit for the SEC. Oklahoma has a tradition-rich football program, would allow the SEC to enter a new TV market and would be a natural rival for Texas A&M, Arkansas and Missouri. The SEC generated $107 million more last year from TV and radio rights deals alone ($420 million) than the Big 12 did in total revenue ($313 million). If OU gets crushed by OSU this weekend the last remaining playoff hope for the conference will be eliminated and there goes the playoff money and national respect. Texas should have never been ranked. TCU is not ready to carry the conference. Baylor is officially a joke.

In addition to Oklahoma the SEC will target FSU. If the SEC added FSU the ACC will get 31 million in exit fees. Divide it by 14 SEC schools and then figure out how much a second team in the football playoff is worth annually. Clemson might be the flavor of the month from the ACC but FSU brings much more to the table for growth of revenue potential.

Its going to happen because money drives everything.

Re: When does the next shoe drop?

Big XII is definitely looking shaky. They should have taken Houston instead of Baylor after the SWC imploded. After that, they should have treated Nebraska with more deference.

Re: When does the next shoe drop?

Clemson is out.  Sec has already said no teams added from same state.....but, what if tx wants in?   Tx and Ok in.  12 is done, mass confusion from aac, perfect for us.   New league.  That is the short version.

Re: When does the next shoe drop?

The behind the scene "politicking" began last year in earnest. Big 10 wants OU to pair with Nebraska. The Longhorn TV network is the proverbial turd in the punch bowl but PAC 12 wants to work a compromise for the horns. Okie State is hoping politicians demand that they be part of any OSU OU package. Baylor is radioactive.
Really hard to see many of Big 12 being part of the upcoming 4 16 team leagues.

Re: When does the next shoe drop?

KState remains in what is left of the reconstituted Big 12 (more on this shortly). KU is in a quandary. They are in no mans land as far as travel for the ACC. Basketball only ACC option has been discussed by no one really wants this as a first choice. Big 10 has been discussed, but far from consensus.
Look for the remnants of the Big 12 to raid the strongest remaining G5 candidates and reform as a 14-16 team league and aggressively pursue relativity.

Probably the best-case scenario for us. We end up in a much-diluted AAC:

-South Division-
Tulsa
Tulane
Southern Miss
UNT
Charlotte

-North Division-
Navy
Temple
ODU
ECU
Marshall
