Re: To The Top Talk 8/3/18- Jon Gilbert

Stadium is getting pressure washed and painted and will also have some new "graphics." In general, Gilbert is of the opinion that recruits "buy with their eyes," and these little cosmetic improvements help.

I tend to agree with Gilbert on those little cosmetic things. There have been times when I thought parts of the campus looked really ugly, and other times when I thought things looked really good, and the difference isn't always millions of dollars.

An example: that bridge over US49 used to be a real eyesore back in the 1980s. Then they painted it white and it was really pretty. Looking at the empty, mildewed upper deck last football season was really depressing and I hope it looks much better.

Deal with Adidas includes bonuses for making a bowl game and for making the NCAA basketball tournament. This is paid in cash and also in extra apparel.

Re: To The Top Talk 8/3/18- Jon Gilbert

I liked the first 50% or so of Gilbert's commentary, but there was some real horseshit at the end that was reminiscent of Giannini.

He's got his head in the sand on the gap the AAC has opened up on everyone else.

He views USM's place in the landscape as an input into the overall equation, not an output that he or anyone else can affect.

I think he's probably pretty good at the day-to-day stuff, and a *much* harder worker than Giannini or McGillis, but his attitude is unfortunately almost 100% wrong.

He talked a lot about ECU at the end and seemed to kind of hint that they've gotten a big head and that we're ultimately in the same boat. That is just incredibly naive in my opinion. (And no, I don't care how many football games they won last year. This isn't 1999 and I'm not that stupid anymore.)

Aac gap is much larger between them and p5 than with cusa.   They have a new tv deal coming up in 2020 and we shall see.   I think our gap gets closer every year as there tv money decreases and ours slightly increases.   Doesn’t matter in the long run as the p5 pulls away.   Mark this down and save.......We shall be soon reunited with ecu, memphis, tulane, and the so fla schools.   The aac ain’t going to make the big dance...  Book it.

One thing to note is that the new AAC tv deal will actually increase a significant amount compared to their current 7 year deal that is about to expire. Right now each school gets $1.6 million a year from tv. They will probably end up around 6 million per school per year starting in 2020 which will still be well behind the P5. They will never ever be considered on par with the P5 because of their total revenue numbers. P5 conferences generate north of $500 million annually. The AAC total revenue is below $75 million.

I do agree that we will end up back with the former programs as you stated. That will happen once Bama and several other programs separate for more money and exclusivity. Days of schools like Vandy and Ole Miss getting equal pay with Bama are numbered.

Was happy to hear that gilby acknowledged the fact that geographic alliances are in the near future and the aac teams should give up their pipe dreams and open up for discussions.   The sooner the better and I look for gilby to push this issue.

Re: To The Top Talk 8/3/18- Jon Gilbert

AAC has exactly as many BCS bowl game victories (3) and national championships (0) as the PAC-12 since its establishment.

The AAC has more NCAA men's basketball championships than the PAC-12 as well (1 vs. 0).

The AAC has represented the Group of 5 in a BCS bowl game 3 of the last 5 years and has won all three times.

UCF has won a Citrus Bowl and a Fiesta Bowl since the establishment of the AAC.

WTF has CUSA done since then? Isn't all of it just a means to an end, with the end being winning big games?
