Denton News So Miss / UNT Game Breakdown

Here is a local breakdown of the game on Saturday from the local beat here in north Texas. The weather is calling for a 100% chance for thunderstorms during the game. "Should" be low scoring like Auburn.

Hopson after bye weeks:

2016: USM 24 Marshall 14
2017: UNT 43 USM 28
2018: USM 40 Rice 22

USM let two 14 point leads go last year against the eventual west champ. Started out great but didn't finish. It was not a great day for Griggs who finished 19/42 with 270 yards and 1 TD. Ito finished with 102 yards and 2 TDs. We lost this game in the 4th because UNT had two scoring drives that ate up over 9 minutes of the final quarter. We didn't have a single turnover in that game but gave up almost 70 yards on penalties.

You have an experienced team at home vs a young team on the road. UNT should win this game by 10 points. The local media is  talking about the wake up call they had against UTEP and that they are now focused. Auburn was the first time in a very long time where we showed up and surprised everyone that knows USM.  Maybe the second half against Kentucky in 2016 was the last time or perhaps the last two minutes and OT against La Tech last season.....Either way the easy money is on UNT. "IF" the same energy and drive shows up like we did at Auburn we don't lose. We win this one by 10-13 points and this young team that is a year away is ahead of schedule and in the drivers seat for winning the west.

Maybe I'm stuck in 1999, but the notion of USM beating North Texas is certainly not something I see as some pie-in-the-sky fantasy.
