Usually works. Still works for the American, I think. You probably need to clear more than history- "browser data," "cookies," "cache"; different browsers use different terminology. The private (a.k.a. incognito) window handles all of that.

Some sites (the Sun-Herald's is an example, I think) have gotten more sophisticated about this shit lately. They subscribe to some service that stitches together your identity based on patterns they see with your IP addresses, user agent strings, and God only knows what else.

Pretty creepy shit, and who's going to pay money to use a Web site anyway, especially one that lagely just regurgitates USA Today?
