Jeep Pickup Truck.......Yes or No?

I have not owned a pickup truck since my 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. Loved that truck because it had a full rear window that would open all the way and gave you a few more feet of length if you needed to carry something that exceeded the short truck bed. I am fairly confident that my next car purchase will probably be either the F150, Toyota Tundra or possibly modify a new black Tacoma to emulate the Marty McFly wheels from BTTF part 1. Toyota did that a few years ago to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the movie and it looked good. I am interested in the now officially named Gladiator that Jeep is releasing next fall. I own a 2008 4 door Wrangler Sahara Unlimited that gets used only on the weekends, maybe getting 4K-5K miles per year at this point. Jeeps are great because you can modify the look 10 different ways in less than 10 minutes. The after market accessories are endless. Not much has been released on the new truck but I will definitely be interested in learning more about it in the coming months. The red photo is the actual Jeep Gladiator in production. The off green Jeep photo is one that I guarantee will become a popular modification assuming companies like Extreme Terrain create and sell a after market grill and soft top.

Re: Jeep Pickup Truck.......Yes or No?

Their try at a truck back in the 80s I think was horrible.

I think they get it right and this one is a hit.

Don't get a Tundra.  Mileage is horrible.

The Jeep Comanche. My buddy's family had one when I was a kid. I thought it was a pretty cool vehicle. Thinking about it, though, they were taking a unibody SUV (Cherokee) and trying to make it a pickup. So there may be drawbacks that come with that.

It was known as a maneater.

Every time you saw one, the hood was up and there was a person sticking out of it.

I can believe that, especially after Chrysler took over from AMC.

If they want it to be a hit, then they need to offer a Turbo Diesel.  That crazy 5 cylinder Dodge motor would have been perfect if it hadn't turned out to be some sort of a fraud and recall laden.

Re: Jeep Pickup Truck.......Yes or No?

If the remake didn't look like a sawed off minivan marketed toward metrosexuals I'd probably buy another Ridgeline. Trunk under the bed, tailgate swings both ways, 20 on the highway, smooth ride and roomy, 5k towing, a true mid-sized truck. I wouldn't touch a Chrysler.

Funny.......have a friend with the old Ridgeline and said the exact same thing. Haven’t seen the new one on the road much....

I remember being hip to that even when I was 8 or 9 years old.

Chrysler aside, my parents had a Fiat for some damned reason when I was really little, and man oh man was that thing a piece of shit.

I used to give Jeep a pass, under the assumption that they were still mostly AMC designs, not Chrysler. It's still true of the Wrangler to some extent, but Jeep's now been through the merger-and-acquisition wringer 3 or 4 times now, and the last two have been with pretty dubious organizations.

Re: Jeep Pickup Truck.......Yes or No?

One of the first "new" cars my dad ever purchased was a 85 Chrysler Fifth Avenue. Black and Gray with some chrome spokes. What mom really wanted was one of those Cadillac Sevilles that reminded me of a funeral hearse with that slanted trunk.........what dad really wanted was a white 84 Corvette he had his eye on for a long time......but dad never got what he wanted.......

I like the Fifth Avenue better. Its styling has held up to the test of time better than the other two cars you mentioned.

My grandpa had one of those Sevilles with the strange back end. He didn't keep it long. Traded it for something more traditional (a Fleetwood, I think).

Wasn't the 84 corvette equipped with the ill fated 'crossfire' injection system.  That engineer should have been hanged in public.

Oh wait, any public hanging is racist.

I don't remember the specs on the 84. All I know is that I went to that dealership in NC after they closed more times than I can remember with my dad to look at it. I don't even think he even gave it a test drive, honestly.

The closest he got to getting something that didn't have a rear window ledge with melted crayons or a kleenex box was a 91 RX7 Convertible, black. The soft top could be partially removed leaving the back window still in place. Sound system was in the headrest. It was the last generation of its body style I believe.

I wish he kept that car....

Crossfire was year 82 and year 84.  Year 83 doesn't exist.  They skipped it.

Re: Jeep Pickup Truck.......Yes or No?

The Wrangler DNA is clearly there. So if this suits you, you're probably safe buying it.

I used to run around with a girl who owned some (non-Wrangler) Jeep contraption and was all proud that it was made by Daimler-Chrysler. She considered it a Mercedes LOL. It had a real time AWD system and the clutch on it was starting to give out. Still no hint of that on my '09 Subaru.
