Urgency ?! We'll give you $350K annually for three years to tell the unwashed masses we're an underfunded division with very little chance of it improving. You must realize by now that the shuttering of our decrepit excuse for a D1 institution will not make Old Miss into another Bammer. Yes I’m sure that somewhere deep inside, your ilk think little ole USM is somehow responsible for your languishing in mediocrity for 25 years. I’m afraid we have both been passed by in our own sad way.

I'd rather see a little more creativity this time around. Someone like McClain (who almost certainly knows better), or, if I can just pick a name right out of thin air, Karl Benson.

SEC is a gravy train. That's where we got Gilbert. We need someone with a tougher background and a sense of urgency.

Re: Jamie Arrington TTT Talk Discussing Jon Gilbert on ECU Sports Radio

The feeling in Greenville right now.............

They are still paying for their old AD who was fired in March. They brought in Dave Hart since he is part of the ECU family to "consult" on the new AD hire. Dave didn't want the AD job but figured he could get paid to help the Chancellor navigate the process....

Now you are 8+ months into a consultation process......8 MONTHS! And the guy you select, out of the 8 month process, is your colleague/friend from Tennessee......yes, the dynamic duo that almost bankrupted an SEC athletic program by getting them into $200 million in debt against less than $2 million in reserves.......which is why Hart is the "former" AD at Tennessee.

So the ECU fanbase is asking themselves this very question right now......if Dave Hart didn't know or work with Dilbert, would he be your top selection.........or even on the list of candidates...... for Athletic Director based on his 20 months at Southern Miss?

The answer is a collective NO!

So tonight, when you hit your knees, thank the good lawd that Dilbert is now going to put the final nail in the fractured ECU athletic program, and take the ECU student athlete on some wicked camping excursions on the Appalachian Trail......

I have full confidence that King Flamingo will mastermind the replacement process in a reasonable time frame. Expect a thesis level mass e-mail detailing his plan momentarily.

The President and the car dealers will hire whoever they desire just as always. They can have all of the committees and advisers they want to use in their search however it will always come back to the car dealers, the president and probably have Dutch Baughman as well if he is still around.

I have to believe the car dealers wanted McClain last round but in order to "justify" a search committee the President went the Dilbert route. No need for a committee this round.

So is it official that Jon Gilbert has resigned from USM and now at ECU? I have not seen anything official.

Re: Jamie Arrington TTT Talk Discussing Jon Gilbert on ECU Sports Radio

HATTIESBURG – Southern Miss director of athletics Jon Gilbert plans to interview for the same job at East Carolina University, but reports that he has already accepted the job or that the university plans to announce his hiring later this week are not accurate.

A source close to Gilbert told the Clarion Ledger Wednesday that Gilbert has been contacted by East Carolina’s 13-member search committee and that Gilbert expects to meet with them “hopefully by the end of the week,” but that nobody had agreed to anything yet.

Gilbert has led the Southern Miss athletics program since January 2017, but rumors of mutual interest between him and East Carolina have swirled since ECU hired special consultant Dave Hart, one of Gilbert’s mentors, to head the school’s search committee.

Hart had reportedly set a goal of finding the right hire by Dec. 1, and one report out of North Carolina Wednesday went as far as to say the ECU Board of Trustees planned to meet at 1 p.m. to approve Gilbert’s new contract.

Gilbert is scheduled to appear at a Southern Miss Athletic Foundation board meeting this afternoon and has yet to plan a trip to Greensville, according to a source.

Re: Jamie Arrington TTT Talk Discussing Jon Gilbert on ECU Sports Radio

Well Charlotte just pulled an early upset getting one of the hottest coaches available and grabbed Mike Houston from James Madison. Charlotte is now officially on the recruiting clock in the NC area. This was the primary target for ECU fans and now they are getting restless. They have yet to fire their lame duck coach or officially announce an AD while both Charlotte and UNC are moving forward at an accelerated pace. They are already turning on the Dilbert move as a result of the slow pace.....

Re: Jamie Arrington TTT Talk Discussing Jon Gilbert on ECU Sports Radio

I think there's been so much smoke around Pirate Dilbert that it's a done deal. We haven't even heard any other names and they've been without an AD for months now.

That's unfortunate that UNCC got the JMU coach. If I'm not mistaken, there were more prominent schools that showed interest. He must really like that opportunity. A decent football coach can slice through CUSA like a knife through warm butter. Could well mean more New Orleans Bowels and aw-shucks seasons for USM.

My friend says that if getting out of CUSA is a priority, Coach Bower might come a lot closer to having the contacts and reputation to make a run at that, and he has an interesting point.

Bower would probably be better than whoever they end up hiring. Honestly, Sonya might be, too.
