Somehow missed this but after 17 years Toyota is bringing back the Supra. This car had serious credibility when I was back in high school and I am partial to the third generation stlye which stopped in 1992. Since Toyota moved their HQ 10 minutes down the road my neighborhood has become Toyotaville with more than 3,000 employees taking the relo package out of California two years ago so as a result we have many new neighborhood/school friendships that work within their corporate walls. I am having two of them over on Saturday for the Bama/OU game and will definitely get their take on this new model and partnership with BMW.
It will debut next month at the Detroit Auto Show. Here is what we know.....
Rear-wheel drive platform for the Supra with BMW
Supra will get an inline-six
The Supra's six will offer up 335 hp. This is BMW's single-turbo 3.0-liter B58B30 unit, the same found in the M240i and many other cars from the German brand.
The Supra will get a four-cylinder option, too. Specifically, BMW's turbocharged, 2.0-liter codenamed B48B20, which will make 262 hp.
Here is my favorite generation Supra from 1992:
This is the new 2019 version concept:
