Rams @ Saints

Didn't realize Kamara was such an asset in pass protection until I watched him do it.

Re: Rams @ Saints

This game is going to be the highest scoring NFL game in history. Nice fake FG. I think his reach got it but we will see what replay decides.......

Re: Rams @ Saints

Reminds me of the home game against the Patriots in 2009. Brees hit Devery Henderson for a 50+ yard touchdown on a simple post route and I felt that that team was destined for big things. Section 638.

I can recall three scandals involving the Saints that all came out circa 2010-2012.

One was sparked by a report coming from a guy (Mike Cerullo) who the team fired after the 2009 season for absenteeism and dishonesty.

Another stemmed from a complaint made by a man fired by the Saints for misusing team property (Tim Landry) to a clown of a prosecutor (Jim Letten). Letten later lost his job because he cared more about the NOLA.com comment section than he did about crime.

The third scandal involved a Saints security director (Geoff Santini) who was also fired by the Saints. Apparently he thought that the role of a "security director" was basically that of a pharmacy technician... not protecting team / player property and sensitive information from theft, nor keeping tabs on the questionable sorts that inevitably try to hang around pro athletes.

The fifth spoke in the wheel was the American public's inability to understand metaphor, and willingness to believe that Gregg Williams wanted to decapitate Brett Favre.

What I take away from those years is that some person or people from the Saints stepped on the wrong toes. Maybe shit didn't play out post-Katrina like the rest of the league wanted. Who knows? But it doesn't make sense to assert that the Saints were somehow more corrupt than other teams.

Re: Rams @ Saints

Excerpt:

The New Orleans Saints bounty scandal, widely dubbed "Bountygate," was an incident in which members of the New Orleans Saints team of the National Football League (NFL) were found guilty of paying out bonuses, or "bounties", for injuring opposing team players. The pool was alleged to have been in operation from 2009 (the year in which the Saints won Super Bowl XLIV) to 2011.

League commissioner Roger Goodell responded with some of the most severe sanctions in the league's 92-year history, and among the most severe punishments for in-game misconduct in North American professional sports history. Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams was suspended indefinitely, though this would be overturned the following year. Head coach Sean Payton was suspended for the entire 2012 season—the first time since Chuck Fairbanks in 1978 that a head coach had been suspended. General manager Mickey Loomis was suspended for the first eight games of the 2012 season. Assistant head coach Joe Vitt was suspended for the first six games of the 2012 season. The Saints organization was penalized with a $500,000 fine and forced to forfeit their second-round draft selections in 2012 and 2013. In May 2012, four current and former Saints players were suspended after being named as ringleaders in the scandal, with linebacker Jonathan Vilma also being suspended for the entire 2012 season. However, former commissioner Paul Tagliabue overturned all sanctions against the players in December 2012 after finding that despite the players being "very much involved", the coaches and the Saints organization were primarily responsible for the scandal.

Re: Rams @ Saints

Exactly... of all the shit that teams and players have done over the years, "Bountygate" was by far the worst penalized. Does anyone really think it was the worst thing an NFL team or NFL players had ever done? I can think of multiple Baltimore Ravens named Ray who did worse. What would I find if I expanded my criteria to include other teams and given names?

What does this show? Is Roger Goodell really that stupid? I don't think so. The real offense committed by the Saints is buried in history. It will probably be uncovered when we're all very old men, in some tell-all book.
