I remember traveling to #3 FSU from Atlanta to take in my first Southern Miss game in the state of Florida since I drove from Hattiesburg to Gainesville in 92 when Southern Miss was one minute away from pulling the upset against the Florida Gators .....probably my "favorite loss-BDR" just ahead of Nebraska in 99.

I had that same feeling early in Tallahassee when we almost took the first FSU pass to the house. We kept it close in the 2nd but then the wheels fell off in a hurry. My guess is that we were still mentally and physically exhausted from the shootout a week earlier against Houston in OT.

I felt like we really got screwed by the Independence Bowl in 92 when they took Wake over us. It was even harder to accept that we didn't get a bowl bid in 96 after only losing three, two of them against top 15 ranked teams.

florida 92 game...  last play for southern miss.... 4th down from the florida 22 .... we fake a draw... the qb fumbles... picks up the ball... throws a hail mary to the end zone... incomplete... following monday in jackson at the touchdown club bower is the guest speaker... i ask why fake a draw on 4th and 22... no answer but get a good go to hell look...

Waters had a good game.....the reason being he broke up with his girlfriend earlier that week. Bower used that same play in the fourth when we hit Montgomery for a TD to take the lead 20-17. The sideline clearing fight right before half was pure greatness. Shane Mathews thought he would just roll right over us and he was on his way until Perry Carter got a pick six in the 2nd quarter. Great game.
