Our defensive starters can play with Bama’s backup QB

Re: Southern Miss v Bama Game Thread

Lots of ways to dissect this game but the reality is that this is the second best team in the entire country. They have unbelievable athletes. They have at least 3 former NFL experienced coaches walking their sideline. We are not competing to be the best or the elite in college football. Our target should be top 25. We need to be playing the Kentucky’s, South Carolina’s, Vandys, Northwesterns, etc..... play those teams, build your brand and confidence against the P5.....just like we did 20 years ago.

Re: Southern Miss v Bama Game Thread

I put on the Troy Akron game to feel better about our program only to watch the Zips zip down the field for a quick score....

I will say this, whatever building is behind the endzone at Akron it completely dwarfs the actual football stadium.....looks like a hanger for the Spruce Goose.....

Re: Southern Miss v Bama Game Thread

We didn’t belong in that game. It’s not 1980 any longer. I would be happy to never play them again. Sink or swim in our own little pond.
Now on to the competitive part of the schedule.

Just a couple of thoughts. We played hard. We have improved each week. We can certainly win this conference if we don’t check out a game or two. Over all positive improvements and you’ll have to give Hop credit for that.

Re: Southern Miss v Bama Game Thread

Amen....

This team should win every single game for the remainder of this season. This offense is only getting better including, dare I say, the run game. We get Boothe and maybe even Mosley back we are going to be hard to beat.

During Hopsons interview by Coxy he said first 4 games are like pregames. These games will get us ready for what matters, conference play

Sucks to hear that but that’s the reality for us and everyone else. Boise can beat FSU but lose to Nevada and nobody cares. Now win all your preseason games and win conference then you have a special season. Running the CUSA table and only have two losses to the SEC you still have a special season....which is still in front of us.....like Hop said to Coxy.

Re: Southern Miss v Bama Game Thread

I do agree the probability beating Bama was very little  but that isn’t the narrative a head coach should be communicating to his players nor fans

That, and the Montana to Stallworth combination.

Re: Southern Miss v Bama Game Thread

Out of 130 or so FBS teams, Bama beats 100 about like they did us.  As long as Saban is on top of his game, that won't change.
Pretty sure they will find a way to keep him coaching and on the sidelines forever. Maybe hook his head to a battery and roll it up/down the sidelines.

Re: Southern Miss v Bama Game Thread

I went to every Alabama game that was played from 1989 to 2003 and the only time I didn't think USM had a chance to win was in 1993. After the "flag in the divot" in 2003 on the kickoff return for a Td I decided there was no reason to ever go back to Tuscaloosa.  USM had no chance to win Saturday and it wasn't enjoyable to watch (unlike the Troy game which I did go to, nice trip, nice facilities, but in middle of nowhere). Pretty much a wasted week of football season in my mind. The money was nice but I see no reason to schedule another game after 2021. I would think that for about $600,000 less there is an iowa State, Indiana,  Vanderbilt,  Rutgers, or Boston College out there to play.  For now, lets just go out and win this crappy conference.

1. Healthy dose of reality - that we are a third rate program.
2. And should we ever again aspire, it is indicative of the gap that must be narrowed/work that must be done.
3. Great opportunity to use a Bill Lumbergh quote.

The leadership wants to acquiesce in a fart bubble and grow the topper population. This is their punch in the face!
