Re: New marketing campaign

Marketing based on arm- twisting doesn't work.

Build a game day product that people want to see and you won't need to goad people into the upper deck, goad Athletic Department  secretaries into the Eagle Club,  etc.

Re: New marketing campaign

With the exception of a half dozen or so "marquee" games each week, there are seats available to almost every game i see on TV.
All access to virtually all games is killing attendance. You could offer FREE beer and not fill it up.

Re: New marketing campaign

Why not just Tarp The Top (new TTT Campaign) and create a packed gameday experience for the lower bowl to enjoy. Let that smaller footprint push a greater demand for tickets. Shrink the need and cost for security/staff managing upper decks that are going unused. Create a half dozen pop up concession stands with limited offerings that focus on just lower bowl attendees so people get quick food service. Create a solid wifi network for attendees that can also be branded for advertising revenue so people can do whatever while taking in a game at The Rock. Simple things can go a long way to get people to attend multiple games at Southern Miss.

First step should be knowing and accepting who we are today and not what we were years ago. When you accomplish the first step you can then start the process of making the gameday environment better for those that actually attend even if its on a smaller scale. Hell use the tarps for advertising revenue for the next 3 years so they pay for themselves.

Re: New marketing campaign

I HATE tarped  seats as much as anything else in sports... even making secretaries join your booster club.

It's OK to have empty seats.  It means someone at some point envisioned more people giving a damn.

Exactly. Bama is even shrinking their capacity and reallocating space for soclal areas within the stadium.

"Alabama athletics director Greg Byrne said there's a good chance the capacity will move below the 100,000-seat mark.

Recent years have seen the race towards higher capacities end. Several of the largest stadiums have dropped seats in favor of luxury options. Nationwide, college football attendance experienced the second-largest dip in history, according to CBS Sports while the average attendance was the lowest since 1997."

I don't disagree with any of that. But I also dont see other schools publicly setting unattainable attendance goals at the start of the season. There was absolutely ZERO evidence that this team with this home schedule would ever come remotely close to accomplishing the "30K 5 times", so now it just looks even worse than had we not promoted such an unattainable goal.

Sounds like it's time for the return of the ticket-o-meter.

Re: New marketing campaign

I don't think there's any mystery here. Yeah, attendance is down everywhere.  But it's a much smaller problem for schools that don't recruit their coaches in Lorman, MS.

I've seen that stadium full before,  and I remember  who got us there.

Re: New marketing campaign

I think the main reason attendance is down in college football across is because there is little to play for.You have 115 teams playing to be in a meaningless glorified exhibition game (Bowl) regardless of whether they win 12 or 6 games and you have 15(maybe) playing for the P5 Championship/ESPN Invitational (I refuse to call it a playoff, its only includes a few teams from a few conferences). I will go to a bowl game that USM is in (went to Shreveport in 2017, had a great time), but unlike a regular season game, a loss doesn't bother me one second. in fact , any game played after the Army-navy game each is just for people that like to watch football because the winning a bowl game doesn't mean shit (I guess they do get a trophy).

So lets beat North Texas and win this crappy conference again. its the only champion ship we have to play (just like most teams) at this point in college football.

But this is nothing new. It's always been this way. Even before the playoff or before the BCS, there have always only been 15-20 programs capable of winning the NC.

Fun fact, there hasn't been a 1st time National Champion since 1996 Florida. That's nearly a quarter of a century of the same handful of programs winning the NC over and over.

The G5 needs to move on and add the FCS playoff format. G5 Conference champs get a first round bye and host. Championship game is rotated at the same sites as the P5 National Championship. If the top ranked G5 program at the end of the regular season still wants to play 7th ranked Wisconsin instead of the G5 playoff let them.

Re: New marketing campaign

If Judy wants to earn her money work with the other conference commissioners and Independents to create a G5 playoff.

Why would you want to play Arky St in the New Orleans Bowl or Nevada in Hawaii instead of a first round playoff game at The Rock against Colorado St where the winner gets the winner of Boise v UCF?

This can open the door to more revenue at home, better opponents within the G5 like a Boise, UCF, Memphis, BYU, etc.... Look at it like the NIT. You are never going to get straight into the Final Four......ever.....but if you make it to the G5 playoff each year you have something greater to look forward to beyond the Boca Bowl against the 5th place MAC team that has a 6-6 record.
