Re: Hire Monken back

Our hires from here on out will only be worse than the most recent ones, i.e. Hop and Ladner better pan out.

Re: Hire Monken back

That doesn’t help Monken at all. The league is small enough that every team knows Monken wasn’t calling the plays or designing the game plan. If true, to publicly criticize your employer contributes to the problem at hand and doesn’t reflect well on him as a trustworthy leader.
He’s not going to be an OC next season if he wants to stay in the NFL.

Re: Hire Monken back

I don't think Monken ever dreamed those comments would become public. They certainly don't help him, but I also think whoever aired this stuff in public will likely get shunned.

Re: Hire Monken back

What was his salary at USM, $750K per season? He probably got paid $1 million at Tampa X 3 years. Another 800K-900K at Cleveland to not call the plays......If he gave USM another year in 2016 and landed a P5 gig he would have inked a 4 year deal probably north of $6 million. So he probably cost himself a few million by jumping ship one year early.

He won't get a P5 O Coordinator job making a million in college football in 2020. He was rumored to return to OSU when their OC left for Rutgers. That guy was making $550K at OSU last season. In the last hour, OSU just elevated within to fill their open OC position so that opportunity has closed. It will be very interesting to see where he lands in college.

you think I'm kiddin'....I told him to his face it was gold on the horizon...

the monies he made in the last handful would equal staying for year 4 in the end result....

BIRD IN THE HAND SOMETIMES FLOSSES WITH THE BUSH

he's a smart motherTrucker....taking him back is no longer an option.....

disclaimer: remember how many thought he was full of shite and the USM 'spygate' after '11.....yeah.....that was my arse....

Re: Hire Monken back

I remember Spygate well. Hard to believe it's been, what, 6 years?

Mount Monken looks very tall because his tenure sits in a valley of shitty coaching. Not saying he was bad- by the time he left, he was pretty damn good. He always seemed more in control of things than Hopson did last year.

Re: Hire Monken back

Based on what they paid the recently vacated opening he is looking at compensation around $600K for a team that was completely decimated on the offensive side of the ball this offseason. He won't be OC and will have to be mindful to not step on the toes of a OC with exactly one year of experience in that position at UGA. 10 out of 11 starters on offense are gone due to the nfl draft, graduation and the transfer portal. Not sure that will be his landing spot but if it is he will busy be fill some large gaps.

Re: Hire Monken back

$600,000 / year to put up with Kirby Smart on a daily basis is borderline. Might just drive for Uber instead.

Re: Hire Monken back

Took Todd Monken only about 3 days to help Kirby land the top QB in the country.
