Realignment: What's the best possible outcome for Southern Miss?

Not necessarily the most likely outcome.
Not necessarily the outcome you expect.
But was is the best possible outcome that is reasonably possible for Southern Miss?

Re: Realignment: What's the best possible outcome for Southern Miss?

I believe the only outcome will be to accept an invite to an evolving SunBelt conference. The SunBelt leadership is at least proving to be innovative and proactive, unlike the shitshow that is CUSA.

Re: Realignment: What's the best possible outcome for Southern Miss?

Getting back in a conference with some of our old foes would be the best POSSIBLE outcome.
Whether that comes thru an invite to their conference (AAC = unlikely) or some sort of new merger remains to be seen.
BTW, we once bitched about our old opponents & thought we should/could do better.....

Best remotely possible Big 12. If doesn’t happen AAC regardless what is remaining from either.  After that I’d go with some regional concept. Basically die on the vine type conference.

Get in a time machine and go back to one month before Gmumble was hired to remove the albatross from around our neck.

Re: Realignment: What's the best possible outcome for Southern Miss?

64 teams in 4 conferences will form a new league outside of the NCAA and get their own “commish”

Everyone else will be division 2

It’s over

Re: Realignment: What's the best possible outcome for Southern Miss?

I read something this morning that said that the PAC-12, Big Ten, and ACC are in talks. Circling the wagons, I guess, to the exclusion of the Big XII. This implies that there are 4 conferences and around 60 teams that have any seat at the big table at all right now.

So the 64-team split-off predictions are coming true.

Still don't agree with the old AAC-doesn't-matter argument, though. The "P6" myth lasted maybe 6-8 years, but those years saw some really good AAC sports compared to some absolute dogshit from CUSA.
