Re: Coach Collins

Rest in peace.

Coach Collins coached the 1975 team-without-a-stadium. Played in Biloxi, the Superdome, Jackson, Utah, etc. and won 7 games.

beat byu in jxn that year .... good guys won 42-14 .... iirc, like coors and the bandit, it was their first trip east of the mighty miss ... it was also my first collegiate game ever attended at the ripe age of 10 ...  was hooked for life after that ...

RIP, coach Collins

The high water mark. Thankful I didn't miss it.

81 was the year I remember the most.  Tie Bama, Beat State 7-6 in Jackson, Destroy FSU 58-14 then a
TTT moment..... lose to Loserville 13-10 on television when being on TV was a rare thing.

If memory serves they left the field snowy, and maybe sprayed water on it before the game to ice it.

which is opposite (same impact) what the ‘stros did to suppress the bravos running ‘game’

Re: Coach Collins

Rest In Peace, Coach. I missed the Collins era. First game for me was against Memphis St in 92 watching Johnny Lomaro kick the winner in front of maybe 15K.

I did get to see Coach Collins highlights on the 30 for 30 Pony Excess. He went 11-0-1 in 1982 and finished #2 in the country after beating Dan Marino in his final game at Pitt.

Dallas News did mention his passing today as I was curious if they would. That Dale Hansen interview of Collins and the SMU AD was one of the most uncomfortable interviews of all time. To my knowledge Collins never publicly discussed the SMU scandal as he was tied to a confidential agreement. Would imagine someone probably heard the stories at some point.

Seems like we lost to loserville in 80 during a rainstorm something like 6-3.... we always seemed to lose bad weather games.

81 we lost to Mizzou in Orlando and it was something like 15 degrees

Exception would be the 2000 GMAC Bowl. Don't think I've ever been so cold in my life.

Wore a leaky army surplus poncho in that cold driving rain drinking charter and coke in the upper west deck and nearly catching pneumonia, but we liked it, we loved it!  They didn't have any fancy smancy drains. They'd get knocked down, slide in the mud under water and smack their helmets into the concrete wall, but they liked it that way, they loved it!
