Watching A&M try to put something together vs. LSU and I wonder...

...does a quick, horizontal pass to a split end or wide flanker thrown immediately after the snap ever work? I've seen it run as a screen, and also seen it thrown without blockers against loose coverage. It almost never works. When Mike McCarthy got hired away from the Saints to GB, I laughed because, to me, that was his trademark play and it *never* worked. I saw it unfold dozens if not hundreds of times in the Dome, and I always groaned or even booed as soon as I saw that that was what they were doing. WTF, man? Do teams just do this to set something else up?
