ANAHEIM, California--Three numbers: eight, 20,000, 125. What is their significance? In less than 8 minutes, 20,000 attendees paid $125 to purchase every ticket available to go to Blizzard Entertainment's annual gaming convention, BlizzCon. It's even though Blizzard has increased its presence at Anaheim Convention C this year and secured four exhibit halls to accommodate an additional 5,000 people.
Anyone who has even a passing interest in the activities of Blizzard most likely has an understanding of what all the excitement is about. Since the merger with Activision in the year before the company has been going into hyperdrive with its product offerings. In the beginning, the company unveiled that it was launching the long-anticipated WoW Cataclysm Classic at the 2008 Blizzard Invitational in Paris in the year 2008. A few months after, Blizzard trifurcated its sci-fi real-time strategy game Starcraft II, the first game's release was delayed to the beginning of the quarter of 2010 in the first month.
But, more than that Blizzard is the creator of its 800-pound gorilla of a hugely multi-player online game called WoW Cataclysm Classic still going up and running. With over 11 million users around the world clamoring for new updates, Blizzard is due to meet its goal of regular expansions. In in June Blizzard applied to trademark its term "Cataclysm" in the US Patent and Trademark Office Many believe this name to be the title of the next major expansion for WOW.
BlizzCon 2009 will offer diverse activities that cater to the preferences of WoW Cataclysm Classic, Starcraft as well as WoW Cataclysm Classic fans. Attendees can play prereleased versions of Blizzard's forthcoming games that include Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty and WoW Cataclysm Classic. The event will also feature various panels by Blizzard developers including games that are competitive and casual and contests as well as a silent auction and a retail store. And, of course, Ozzy Osbourne, the Prince of Darkness himself, Ozzy Osbourne, will likely be in attendance as well.
We heard that the website cites "multiple sources with knowledge of the issue" who say two new races are planned to add in WOW within a possible new expansion dubbed "Cataclysm." In the case of the Alliance faction, it is believed that the new race is said to be the Lupine Worgen. While the Horde is expected to receive the previously neutral Goblin race.
The leak is believed to have come about following earlier speculation that Goblins and Worgen were to add to the eleven million-strong massively gaming game's online roster. On the 17th of July the fan website MMO Champion announced that it was certain that both races could be played following Blizzard unveiled Goblin and Worgen unique masks for its Halloween-themed in-game event. In the past, only races that could be played were given this distinction.
The name that was reportedly used for the likely expansion coming out, Cataclysm, was trademarked by Blizzard on June 26, for everything from greeting cards to computer games. When P2Pah sought clarification from Blizzard about the trademark registrations however, Blizzard declined to provide further information about the title, such as whether the cataclysm name will be used in different game series or even a brand new one.
