Best I’ve seen on TV is midget porn. But hey, whatever floats your boat

#2 Re: Southern Miss » Do you know anyone that roots for a G5 school (other than USM)? » 2018-01-16 09:01:45

Yes, know several. La Tech (several), Ohio, Tulane, South Alabama, and UCF. Likely others but those immediately come to mind

Bigger question, is Aunt Judy echoing the position of our collective presidents?

Golf is a great sport for masochists.

As someone who was a +1 cap not long ago, you don’t realize how much you understand golf. It’s worse than a woman. It truly is the game that cannot be beaten.
My advice to anyone who picks up a club for the first time is ‘if you are obsessive about ANYTHING, put it down and never pick up another one in your life!’
On the other hand,  if you really don’t care about sucking at something, carry on. That said because no matter how good you get you will suck beyond belief on some days.

once you can pound it and get it in the hole, it becomes the head game of head games.......

Had Southern Miss finished the season like UCF we’d do the same. Nothing wrong here

Why i told you fools the aac wasnt a destination to seek.   Aint enough room on the dance floor.  We are in the same sinking boat.   G5 playoff is the only thing that will save us and draw interest.

Suppose one can’t judge someone a fool just yet. In fact, AAC TV exposure and revenue far exceeds all others. Cant recall exact number but each AAC team gets between $2mm - $3mm versus our $200k. All comes down to which direction next TV deal for AAC goes. Stays the same or increases then doesn’t appear the ‘fools’ were wrong. If it nose dives like some suggest then foolish it may be. Regardless AAC is a better conference from perception, respect, Bowl contracts, TV exposure etc.

Southern Miss can’t win CUSA, what benefit will a G5 playoff present?  Split amount all G5 will not do much, value just isn’t there.  Look no further than G5 bowls. Low attendance and TV  viewership. Doubt an entity is willing to pony up $100mm + because ‘we think it will work’. Too many measures available to say otherwise.

One could question to what extent it exists now.

That point can’t be argued. Not much left of what was a once proud program.

Rambling thoughts and questions.

Most or all G5 TV contracts come due within the next 30 months.  Interesting to read opinions from different fans. Some, actually many, believe the TV revenue bubble has busted. Some, mostly AAC, believe it will receive a significant increase. It’s been rumored CUSA will yet again take another hit to an already diminished revenue source.

Suppose the question is, will this be a nuclear type explosion? Complete realignment for all G5. Or will it be a grenade for select G5 conferences?  Must admit, AAC has done about all a G5 conference can do to get respect and TV dollars. But is it enough?  If CUSA Tv contract declines again, or remains the same, can we afford to hang around?

Next thirty months should be interesting. One could question if Southern Miss football exist within next 36 months.

Season has taught us several things but one particular. Whoever Beers picks bet the house on the opposite team

UCF pisses me off. Louisville pisses me off. Memphis, USF, Cincinnati, etc..... Why the hell not us? WTF did we do to the football gods to get shit on and passed by all of our former peers and rivals. Burns me up and hell yeah I'm jealous of them!

Difference is their commitment to its sports programs. $1.5mm or more  versus $500k coaches salary. UCF was 0-12 just two short years ago now playing in the Peach Bowl. Southern Miss 0-12 5 years ago still trying to find our way out.

Agree with you, I’m jealous. Jealous of their leadership and vision

Until Winston matured as a person and player he’ll go down as a bust

I hadn’t heard that. Thanks for the update. Sounds like he’ll stay in Tampa

Where does Monken land?  Most likely unemployed this week. Stay in NFL or back to college?

C+. Had the bowl game not been such a beat down I’d go B or B-.  C+ is generous taking into account entire body of work

So how do you feel about 8-5? Was it really a great season?

Expectations can get ridiculous in our little corner of the world. LSU fans in particular are fun to laugh at the minute things go even slightly off course.

2017 wasn't bad enough for me to tune out or go full-on BDR-style cynic. I went to a couple of games and I went to the bowl game. That drive from Shreveport straight back to Atlanta so I could make it to work the next morning was no pleasure cruise.

I'm still fighting the good fight, Chosen One.

All is not well in Mudville, though. The team needs to be in better shape. The team needs to be able to line up on the right side of the line of scrimmage at least 85% of the time.

Great? Not even close. Good? I’d say yes. Second year coach and staff having to replace one of the best QB’s, statistically, in our history. Not many programs could easily replace a Mullen’s.  Unfortunately we went from one extreme to another.

Do not believe I challenged your fan hood nor any others. I did challenge the unrealistic expectation for Southern Miss to be a consistent 12-0 contender. If going 12-0 consistently is the only happy place then I must tell you, there is no Santa Clause.

Improvement should be expected but let’s put this season in proper perspective. Eight wins ain’t bad my friend. The ass kicking we took by Florida State, now that was real bad.

Peace
