That's impressive. Well done.

I've made 71/77 since 2004. Had a 43 game streak going from 2005-2012 but by the end of the year I couldn't support EJ so I missed the final 2 home games. Missed the final 2 home games of 2013 because I wasn't interested in watching us getting blasted by FAU and MTSU. Missed the UAB game in 2014. Also missed the Tulsa game back in 2005.

We are 0-6 in home games I've missed during this timespan.

Did either of y'all go to the 2002 Houston Bowl. Just curious... not judging, Houston isn't exactly a destination people daydream about.

No. Haven't been to many road/bowl games.

2007 Papa John's - L
2008 NOLA - W
2009 NOLA - L
2015 LaTTTech - W
2015 WKU/SUNWACUSA title - L
2016 NOLA - W

Might go to Monroe and/or Ruston this year.

Oh, man, that 2009 NOLA Bowl was brutal. Perfect counterexample for anyone who thinks we need bowls to survive. That one was an absolute kick in the teeth.

Forgot to add that I went to Navy in 2011. Very fun trip.

Agree on the potential rivalries.

Would people turn out for ULL and App State over UNT and Charlotte? I don't know.

Nah, The THE is right, you're just replacing 6 shitty teams with 6 other shitty teams. only difference is the shittiness is closer to our shittiness.

My proposed league is definitely better football than CUSA. Not saying it'd be the AAC or MWC but it's better than the MAC or Sun Belt.

We fit in more culturally with schools like Georgia Southern, LaTech, and Arkansas State anyways. Rural-ish schools with small, but passionate fanbases. We have nothing in common with these mega-commuter schools like FIU and Charlotte that have a billion students but 18 total fans.

Can't argue with that, but I do think independence suits us even better. We're Southern Miss. The ultimate road dog. "Anyone, Anywhere, Anytime." That was our identity. Not sure why we abandoned it, other than AD laziness.

I get what you are saying. I understand. but I still won't go to a game home or away vs those teams either. I will watch at home but I will not bother to bust my ass driving to watch that shit either. we're Little League now. I don't do little league.

That's why I said:

"I don't want to see another home game until we figure some things out."

Home win against South Alabama? Nah, no thanks.

Away game against the Vols like the one we had in 2000? I can make that, if our team is decent enough to steal one. One 21-0 win at Bama (not even the first time we skunked 'em LOL) is worth 1,000 C-USA championships in my book. Tearing down the uprights after we beat UH in 1997... just shake your head at that one, folks. It was pathetic. The real fans were not impressed.

Play the best teams ("anyone") at their place ("anywhere") every year ("anytime"). It's not neurosurgery, 'Eagles. It's a recipe we inherited.

What reason is there to go to a game? Entertainment? The product? everything about USM football from stadium, food, the scoreboard audio is horrible, etc it's em brass if. Winning a CUSA championship is like winning a race at fat camp. There is absolutely nothing about our program that generates a lick of excitement.

This is 100% correct.  There is no reason for excitement anymore.  Winning CUSA is a ho hum event.  Nobody, including USM fans, give a shit about it.   Our conference is made up of "homecoming" opponents and "tune up for bigger games" opponents.   The only "fix" is to get out ASAP.   Then again, I remember in Jeff Bower's 1st or 2nd year, we had 12,000 show up for a home game.   So maybe we have fluctuating years.   The hiring of Jeff Bower was a ho hum event sort of like our current coach.  Likable guy but not an exciting hire....hopefully he'll grow on us.   I actually believe in our current coach....I'm just stating the obvious.  And swapping shitty teams with closer shitty teams won't help a thing.    Hell, we just had an SEC team in our house (VERY RARE) and we had a pathetic turnout.

Basically this year might end up being a test run.  We could have beaten Kentucky...If we can nail down a solid starting QB with good WR corps and win a bunch of games this year, that could be parlayed into better attendance next season anticipating the return of those players and a good team.   This year, we just had ZERO to look forward to with so many questions at QB etc.   Our last chance for any excitement this year is to make a solid run in this pathetic conference heading into the TENN game.

I've been clamoring for a new league for about 2 years now. I'd rather play ULL and USA over Charlotte and UNT, but I don't think that gets the average South Mississippian excited.

East: WKU, Marshall, App, MTSU, UAB, Georgia Southern
West: USA, USM, LaTech, ULL, Rice, Arky State

No, it doesn't.  All those teams are interchangeable to me.   Getting back with East Carolina, Houston, Memphis, Tulane, SMU is more exciting and should be our SOLE GOAL right now.

Since we are pitifully reactive, that won't happen anytime soon.  After the TV money dries up in the AAC, then anything is possible.  But can we really afford to wait for that to happen?

I don't know the answer to that.  I would have laughed at anyone recommending going independent but shit, I suppose it should at least be looked at.   But changing out a set of horrible teams with other horrible teams (even if it's more regional) isn't going to help.  I could buy a piece of shit car from another state or I could buy one local....nothing changes the fact it's a piece of shit car.   who f'n knows.  Like I said before, I remember early in Jeff Bowers career we had 12,000 show at a game.  It was horribly embarrassing.  This isn't something new here.  People want to be entertained.  You have to have an entertaining product to draw people in....and that includes the visitor.

Our athletic department's sales pitch for tickets this year basically amounted to, "Hey SEC fans, we're the hometown team, so come and see us when you're not busy." What do people expect when the AD and Associate AD are running around town letting everyone know it's ok that Southern Miss is on the back burner?

As someone on another board pointed out, all that does is take us from 1st to 8th in CUSA attendance with the same # of butts in the seats.

National media picking up on this. This could have been avoided had we counted students like we have for years now. All verified IDs counted instead of just students in attendance. More piss poor leadership from USM. Shooting ourselves in the foot.

I have pictures of the East side 3 minutes before kickoff.  I will post if someone informs me how to do it.

WAAAY less than half full.  It only got worse after that pic.

Yeah, I couldn't make it to the game due to my daughter getting sick.  But on TV it looked horribly embarrassing.   Already assuming we wouldn't have a good turnout, even I was surprised at how piss poor it actually was.  Hell, the weather had to of been the best for an opening game in years.  Usually its 1 million degress and a 1000 percent humidity.   Saturday was actually very nice.....so can't blame weather which we've tried to do in the past.

You're welcome to email me any image your want posted (stanleyjohnproctor@gmail.com) and I'll post it. If you want to do it yourself, you need to do the following:

1) First, host the image somewhere on the web. Imgur is very easy to use.

2) Paste the URL for your image into the "Message" text box.

3) Highlight the URL inside the "Message" text box.

4) Click the correct icon in the "Message" tool bar. It looks like a framed picture of a tree. It's near the middle of the bar.
