Martinez is right......And I hate the Nats. Joe Torre is a joke. Would love to see the Astros score 4 and win by 1.....which would equal the one run left off base by the same friggin ump that called the infield fly call against the Bravos. Guys a joke and so is baseball for allowing that to happen.

Just seems like that guy's whole approach is to show off his knowledge of obscure, counter-intuitive parts of the rulebook.

Did you see him when they were huddled up talking to New York? He was still barking back at Turner in the dugout. A good ump knows what’s on the line in a game 6 of the friggin World Series and that emotions are extremely high so just look or walk away especially if the call isn’t a gimmie. Same with Martinez between innings, turn around and walk away. Zero possibility MLB can make this mistake seem logical based on rules. This “rule” is changed this offseason because it’s dumb.

Yeah, I saw that. If I'm parsing the body language, etc. of the officials, they have by definition not done their jobs. They are not the attraction. That's rule one. (And that's why I bitch about the "real stars" the minute I even have to think about those clowns.)

Zero possibility MLB can make this mistake seem logical based on rules. This “rule” is changed this offseason because it’s dumb.

The thing is, the rules are subjective, particularly when it comes to what happens in the infield. There are all sorts of "reasonables" and "best efforts" in there. It reminds me of the abomination that is the NFL catch rule, or the ridiculous agonizing over the College Football Playoff selections. These barf-munchers sit in New York and wring their hands and try to make everything "fair," and fail, because the only thing "fair" is to start the season (and each game) with a set of rules known to everyone involved and simple enough to be understood by them.

That is where sports in 2019 falls short profoundly.
