Austin Davis was placed on the injured reserve
Seattle’s trade to acquire backup quarterback Brett Hundley more or less guaranteed both Austin Davis and Alex McGough would not make the 53-man roster.
McGough was waived, although the Seahawks likely hope he passes through waivers unclaimed so they can keep him on their practice squad.
However, instead of waiving Austin Davis, the Seahawks placed him on the IR. This is a surprise, as there was no previous indication that Davis was hurt. He played the entire first half against the Raiders on Thursday, completing 13 of 20 passes for 194 yards.
The move to the IR prevents him from playing for the rest of the season, but it does guarantee him a small salary – so it’s possible Seattle placed him on the IR in order to help him out by making sure he gets paid. Of course, it does keep him under their control as well.
"There was a great deal of character on that field today. They are for real, no doubt about it. This was no fluke." - Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant
