they don't make 'em like that anymore.....
WKRP in Cincinnati was based on one of its creators' experiences at a station called WQXI, right here in Atlanta. Back then it was, like the fictional WKRP, a Top 40 format music station. Right now, it's a Korean language station.
In between the Top 40 era and the Kim Il DJ era, WQXI was a sports station. What happened? Well, their morning "talent" (Nick Cellini, "Steak" Shapiro, and Chris Dimino) decided it would be a good idea to inject a little Steve Gleason humor into the show.
New Orleans (a city whose sports fandom someone from Atlanta can't really expect to understand) erupted. Everyone got fired, and WQXI resorted to playing ESPN Radio 24/7.
ESPN Radio, as you probably know, sucks. So they eventually had to go Korean.
Nick and Chris wound up handling mornings for WGSO 690, which is really a move up. Chris got fired from at least one more station in between. They are really major league knuckleheads. It's hard to listen to. I can see why they'd feel the need to resort to gutter humor.
