Re: Basketball isn’t over just yet.....

Figured the team had a shot at this, but wondered whether the department would put up the fee. I believe it;s $50,000.

What's up with SIU-E though? Didn't think they were in this bracket.

Re: Basketball isn’t over just yet.....

I don’t get how we pay 50K and have to play at 15-17 Longwood that has a venue that seats 1,800.....

Lose to Longwood at a cost of $50K and someone should be fired as that is a very high TTT moment in waiting.....

Heard Mack Grubbs bankrolled it. Go buy a car from him.

We are beginning to take basketball seriously.
At least one more game means a few more sanctioned practice sessions.
All. For. It.
Get a jumpstart on next season, and possibly a nudge in recruiting.

Does a loss to a 12 win Longwood take us a few steps back if that happens? I’m still not over losing to Savannah St 10 years ago....I think a loss to Rust or Blue Mountain might be on par with Longwood.....

Doc gets to either experiment with the bench, see what the elder crew wants to do moving forward, or make a mix of it...

either way, their's not a snowball's we buy a fk'n game...if we did that, then I'd have a serious problem...

Yes, but you have to try in sports.

The whole thing is pretty weird. It's $40,000 to host a game, and that offer's open in the first two rounds. It's a "bid" process- does that mean $40,000 is just the minimum bid?

In the last two rounds, hosting is by seed, but the home team has to turn over its "gate receipts." Don't know if that includes dogs and tots.

What the calculus that led to USM @ Longwood is, I can only guess. Opie says USM has offered up the $40,000. Maybe Longwood's check arrived first?

WVU, DePaul, and the other name teams in this thing can clear $40,000 and then some from a basketball home game. 3,000 people spending $14 per will do it. So I get why WVU is here.

If USM gets a home game, it will likely be against DePaul. If that's our Hardwood Nerlins Bowl, I'll take it.

I enjoyed it when DePaul was in our conference back in the day for 10 minutes. Same with Marquette and St Louis.

Re: Basketball isn’t over just yet.....

Longwood got to host because they had some agreement with Gazelle who is behind the tourney. I love Docs interview today where he basically called out Judy’s Pod idea as worthless. Nobody got into the NIT from CUSA and that is on Judy. She had her PR machine trying to promote the fact that 4 teams got into the women’s NIT today but who really cares. The Presidents need to make a change with her since she hasn’t delivered on anything important during her 4 years.

Oddsmakers have USM as a 10.5 point favorite. Believed it opened narrower than that.
