You just backed up what I am saying.........  Nobody in CUSA

We need to get out of this shit league.  It's dragged us down to nothing......forcing us to play Charlotte, and the likes......

We don't have the flexibility to schedule now, like we would as an independent.  And fuck the access bowl shit........  worthless in our current situation.

Try again.

We'd still be a CUSA-level program if we went indy. The perception of Southern Miss wouldn't change if we left the conference. USM would still be a broke ass directional school that peaked in the late 90s.

We might have be able to schedule 3 $$$ games instead of 1, but once you get into October or November, it's near impossible to schedule unless your name is ND or BYU.

Just to prove you have no idea what you are talking about concerning scheduling:
Ark: Nov 4 Coastal carolina
Ole Miss: Nov 11 ULL
Georgia: Nov 25 Ga tech
S.Car: Nov 18 Wofford
Florida: Nov 18 UAB
Ky: Nov 25 Loisville
Tenn: Nov 4 Southern Miss
Vandy: Nov 4 w.ky
Misouiri: Oct 21 Idaho, Oct 28 uconn
Bama: Nov 18 Mercer
Auburn: Nov 18 la monroe
Tex am: Nov 11 New Mex
MSU: Oct 14 BYU, Nov 4 Umass

Now what were you sayin beage?

SEC teams playing 1 non-conference game late in the year doesn't prove anything. You have to find 7-8 games during this timespan. It's very difficult because teams are locked into their conference schedule.

Boss man, I wasn’t questioning your fan hood nor if or not you attended games. My statement was general in nature regarding number of home games.

Understood. You really made a pretty objective, easy-to-defend statement that there are people who want to go to as many home games as possible, and those people don't want fewer home games.

I remember being embarrassed that we only had 4 home games when I was a freshman. Then, a couple years later, I thought CUSA 1.0 was beneath us. You just can't please some people.

What are you trying to prove?

Teams might play one OOC game late in the year. OK. You have to find 7-8 of these games every year. That's very difficult. None of those teams are going to give us a return trip. Under your plan, we might play 2-3 home games a year.

If NMSU can fill out a football schedule without a conference we certainly can. If nothing else, most of the Sun Belt would probably love a shot at us, and they're no worse than CUSA. Hell, a home-and-home or neutral site game against ULL sounds a lot better to me than anything CUSA's got. The only selling point CUSA has is that it's the status quo

The question to ask is this: if the past could be altered somehow such that USM were independent now, would USM join CUSA 3.0? I hope the answer would be "hell no." There's your answer to the actual question we do face.

Re: Gilbert Speaks

Yeah, you can schedule 7-8 road games in a row, maybe. I'm sure fans will be lining up to buy the 3 home game season ticket plans.

Idiot.   You act like we have to play the same teams every year.   Plenty to go around.  And mid to lower level P-5 we can schedule home and home.   Throw in a couple of cusa and sunbelt., couple,of whore games, and it is easy to do.

If people are really so hung up on home games, then they'll go to them.

Time was, four home games per year was common for USM. We made our money on the road. No conference wanted us, but we played some good ball anyway. That was our identity.

Giannini, and McClellan before him, tried hard to undo this reality. Ultimately USM did manage to basically build a conference for itself out of thin air, and did so around a team (Louisville) that mostly didn't want to participate. It was a coup, and what followed was a golden age, if you're in love with USM home games.

It proved to be a house of cards, though. "At the end of the day," you can't built a conference around a bunch of schools that have one eye on the door. And that's the only kind of conference we'll ever be welcome in, barring something truly unforeseeable.

These things must be acknowledged and dealt with.

That's what I don't get: who wants the status quo? Are people enjoying this?

Then why aren't we scheduling H/H with P5s now? Our next P5 home game isn't for another 7 years. Going indy won't change that.

Giblet and Caroline. Maybe a few more of the extorted "ALL IN" department.

I’m open to the idea of going indenpendant.  My concern, you’ve clearly outlined it.  Those teams aren’t on the schedule now. Realistically why would this change?

Re: Gilbert Speaks

The only way to get P5 teams to Hattiesburg would be either to A) join the AAC (not happening) or B) find a corporation or wealthy individual that will start handing out checks to teams to get them to play here (a la Liberty).

Re: Gilbert Speaks

I explained why its harder now to schedule P5 than if an independent.  We have limited dates, they have limited dates.  They have to mesh.   Now with no set conference schedule, its unlimited.

Re: Gilbert Speaks

I would have that shit knocked out in no time.....

Calls for whore games first, two or three.  Lock those dates in.   Next hit the Sec and Acc for filler dates.   Next plug in aac and cusa to finish it out.   October is the lean month, so maybe an aac, couple of cusa, or even Troy.

Not a problem.   Would it be easy?  Hell no.   First few years would be a shit schedule.   Long term it would payoff however.
