LaTech

Don't call it a rivalry.
Don't call it The Rivalry in Dixie.
A rivalry has to have bad blood and there is none here.

Re: LaTech

Its the best we have right now. Would you classify ECU as a rival? Memphis? Tulane? La Tech has played us 50 times going back to 1935. Memphis goes back to 1935 and has played us 62 times. ECU started in 1951 and has played us 40 times. Tulane series started in 1979 and only has 30 games on record. If La Tech isn't a rival who is? We own every series mentioned by a wide margin. We have played more games against La Tech than we have against Bama, Auburn, MS St and Ole Miss. I get that its a Sun Belt team and not sexy but I still see it as a rival based on history and number of games played.

Re: LaTech

ECU - definitely used to be some bad blood there, e.g. the sprinkler game,  the intentional penalty game...

Memphis, Tulane- never quite bought these. We played a lot.  Ho hum.

Houston, Louisville - were definitely rivals. We played spoiler for each other more than once.

Bottom line: if the USM Athletic Department says it's a rivalry,  it's probably just someone easy for them to schedule.

If, on the other hand, it feels like a real rivalry,  the other side is looking for a ticket out of that quicksand.

Re: LaTech

Some might consider UAB a rivalry.

My toaster and coffee maker are both older than their program.....and I’m not talking about their reboot a few years back

Re: LaTech

In an effort to get ahead of the broadcast this weekend please note that the USM v LaTech game will only be available on the NFL Network. If you are a cord cutter like me I believe only PSVue offers the NFL Network under a free trial service. Sling TV has it but I don't think they have a free trial going on right now......You get a 5 day trial for free but you need to select the CORE PS Vue channel package.

I swear its always a challenge trying to figure out who is showing Southern Miss.......Facebook, ESPN +, NFL Network, HGTV........

Re: LaTech

Playing an opponent a great number of times doesn't make it a rivalry.  Ill will and good ole fashion hate make it a rivalry.
I hate Houston. I hate Louisville. I hate both the in state schools.
LaTech draws no emotion from me. Just another CUSA opponent.
Somebody start a fight in the stands. If '78 was still with us I'd send him to do it.

Re: LaTech

At this level the idea of a "rival" is just silly.

I mostly agree with that. Our only rivals are obscurity and irrelevance. Wish the people in charge would remember that instead of trying to okey-doke us.

Re: LaTech

I bet it feels like a bit of a rivalry to La Tech. After losing several games to us recently that they should have won, I'm sure they've built a little hatred for us. Most of us probably feel the same way about UAB. Let's hope the La Tech game doesn't start feeling like a rivalry for us any time soon. That would likely mean they've stole a few wins from us. The La Tech fans aren't WKU or Houston fans, so I doubt they are going to cause us to hate them otherwise.
