Question re: 2012 and Big East/AAC realignment

As most of you remember, there was a 2nd wave of expansion in 2012-13, where Tulane, ECU, and Tulsa joined the AAC.

This was the year we went 0-12 and looked (and were) extremely unstable. My question is this: if we hired Monken or Anderson instead of EJ, post our usual 7-8 wins, do we get more of a look from the AAC in 2012?

The day we fired EJ was the same day ECU and Tulane left CUSA. What a bittersweet moment.

Re: Question re: 2012 and Big East/AAC realignment

no. we don't have the budget. why do you all think a team is attractive to a conference from wins and losses? that has nothing at all to do with inclusion to a conference. it's all about money. geeeze.

Yes, I seem to remember that.

And 0-12 is not unstable at all.

Re: Question re: 2012 and Big East/AAC realignment

I really don't think 0-12 made much difference as far as conference affiliation is concerned. Somebody already said it: we just don't spend enough. Most of our fans' wallets are clamped shut with a piezostatic force that rivals any experimental fusion reactor in any laboratory. Good thing mine isn't, or we wouldn't have any place to whine about it.

This is a fact!  Too many fans are not members of the Eagle Club at any level and then of those that are, many give just enough to get a decent seat or parking spot but can afford much more. I don't understand why folks don't make more charitable donations in general that can be deducted off their taxes.

nope...the mindset back then ( and has since been discovered to be wrong ) was all about market size.

It's all about money, of which we have very little.  A proud and successful tradition is about all we can offer a conference, not the promise of bringing big bucks with us.

Probably has a lot to do with how bad this part of the schedule is.

I won't say we have absolutely nothing to gain this weekend, though.  We absolutely need to learn how to get up for games against teams in the bottom third of FBS. Those teams gave us real problems last year.

Re: Question re: 2012 and Big East/AAC realignment

too many usm message boards. there are 5 now and everyone is spread over those 5. we need just one big board for everyone. everyone is welcome. except for fistedasshole of course. 1 board. 1 people. "together we are stronger."

Posting on both forums.

You're right about there being too many forums. We have like 5 or 6. Most schools our size have like 1. Hell, even Mississippi State and Ole Miss may only have 3 or 4.

Ideally, there should be 2 max. One paid and one free. That's the way it was before Scout took off.

I don't ever see there being 1 big board. We have too many of our fans that get triggered by the term "mid-major" and think we're too good for a 2-1 with MSU, so they want to run off to their safe space. Too scared of the truth.

Re: Question re: 2012 and Big East/AAC realignment

I can't believe anyone would pay to be on a message board. Can't believe anyone would post on a board where the mods threaten people, either. Beagle touched on it, though. People who've grown up with the Internet seem to take it very seriously, and this board would probably just raise their blood pressure.

Exactly. And we sucked in conference play last year. As little as I care about beating, FxU, I care more about not losing to them.

7 of 12 scheduled opponents (if you include Savannah St.) fall into the "bottom third of FBS" category. Our Eagles went 4-3 against the bottom third.

For the record, USM was 2-2 vs. the middle third and 0-1 vs the top third. In our bowl game we picked up another win against LaLA (bottom third).

The problem is not "how to get up for games against teams in the bottom third". The problem is that USM is playing bottom third football against a schedule that is chock full of bottom third teams.
